The winds of doctrine and the defection of Truth among Christians.

The Bible is God’s Holy Word, to be our ultimate guide for what we believe and what we do. The Bible trumps man’s authority, church tradition and our own opinions. The Scriptures and the Scriptures only will be the one to dictate our actions and guide our thinking. The Bible declares itself to be God breathed, inerrant and authoritative. The Biblical Scriptures is a direct divine revelation and does not allow men’s traditions to contradict it, including religious traditions.

The only way to be under the Scriptures authority and avoid subjectivity is to keep our personal opinion from taking priority over the teachings of the Bible. The Biblical hermeneutics is the study of the principles and methods of interpreting the text of the Bible and its most important law if the Bible should be interpreted literally. We are to understand the Bible in its normal and plain meaning unless the passage is obviously intended to be symbolic.

Having said that, consider the apostle Paul writing his letter to the Ephesians. He was concerned about the thinking and the beliefs among the community of believers.

He who descended is the very one who ascended above all the heavens, in order to fill all things. And it was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for works of ministry, to build up the body of Christ until we all reach unit in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, as we mature to the full measure of the stature of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed about by the waves and carried around by every wind of teaching and by the clever cunning of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Christ Himself, who is the head. From Him the whole body is fitted and held together by every supporting ligament. And as each individual part does its work, the body grows and builds itself up in love. So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.Ephesians 4:10-17

Here we have some important keywords from Paul’s letter to the Ephesians: “unit in faith”, “mature to the full measure of the stature of Christ”, “every wind of teaching” and “deceitful scheming”. We live in days that a Christian is mocked by reading the Bible literally and having the Scriptures as his sole authority.

We are starting to see people who call themselves Christians challenge the Bible’s principles and message. We are seeing people reading the Bible from their sexuality or political preferences. Others read the Scriptures from their passions and ideologies. The result ? Entire churches following parts of the Bible and rejecting others. Many communities today are selecting passages of the Bible and deleting others to justify their adultery or homosexuality. That is why we are seeing now “drag queen pastors” or “psychics” in staff of churches. Others are cutting pieces and combining them to make the Bible to be a socialist letter.

According Revelation 22:18-19 and a wide ranging number of other passages from the Scriptures, those practices are anathema before the Lord. Anathema means cursed, eternally condemned. When the Lord says something is “anathema,” it is a serious matter.

Two passages in the Bible say that “in the last days, scoffers will come.” In Second Peter 3:3 and Jude 1:18 both Peter and Jude were writing warnings against false teachers. “In the last days, scoffers will come”. A “scoffer” in this context is one who mocks Christ and opposes the gospel. We are living in the last days and we are witnessing many false teachers trying to lead others astray.

In fact, throughout the new testament, Paul warns Jesus’s disciples about a defection from Truth within the body of Christ. He particularly points to the days approaching the returning of Yeshua (Jesus) to this Earth to establish His Kingdom. His main point is that, before Yeshua returns, there would be a great defection from the Truth within the Church!

In other words, people would believe what they want to believe. People would interpret the Bible according their own sexual desires, opinions and political ideologies. This is exactly what we are living in our generation. Many are using the Scriptures as a tool to absolve their sins and advance their worldview. That is why we see all sorts of “Bibles”. Bibles re-written to please gays, psychics, socialists, sorcerers, radical environmentalists. We have the pink, the green and the red Bible. Let’s remember what the apostle Paul wrote to Timothy…

“I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of His appearing and His kingdom. Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke and encourage with every form of patient instruction. For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires so they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths….. ” 2 Timothy 41-4
