Netanyahu and his new government. One step closer to fulfillment of Bible prophecy ?

The Palestinians have turned to the UN to halt Israel’s pending plans to annex West Bank settlements, with a Security Council discussion on the matter expected to be held on May 20. In Ramallah, “Palestinian Authority” President Mahmoud Abbas was scheduled to chair a meeting of the PLO Executive Committee on Thursday night to discuss Israel’s plan to apply sovereignty to parts of the West Bank. The Arab League has condemned Israel’s controversial proposal to annex much of the “occupied West Bank”, saying the move would constitute a “new war crime” against the Palestinians.

Separately, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is under pressure from the settlers to move forward on the plans immediately, particularly now that the High Court of Justice ruling that gave a stamp of approval for his premiership. Netanyahu may soon announce in front of Knesset that he will now seek to promote the application of Israeli law in Judea and Samaria. The pressures comes on the heels of US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman suggesting the “US was ready” to back the plans and that negotiations between Israel and the “Palestinian Authority” should resume.

The application of Israeli sovereignty over the Jordan valley and other areas at the eastern border evokes biblical prophecy. One can’t help but remember Matthew 24 when Yeshua (Jesus) is talking to the disciples and say:

“…….so when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation”,  spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand—  then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.  Let no one on the housetop  go down to take anything out of the house.  Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak.  How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!  Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath.  For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again“.

Yeshua is describing the days in the tribulation when the Antichrist will walk into the temple in Jerusalem and declare himself G-d. The Assyrian will go after the Jewish people with all he got.

What mountains Yeshua had in mind? The Lord must have had in mind Petra, a nearly inaccessible ancient city 50 miles south of the Dead Sea in southern Jordan and the surrounding mountainous area. So let’s go back to the “annexation” issue. If the eastern border of Israel returns to Israeli’s law that will open a clear path to the Jewish people to flee to safety in the mountains.

If some kind of peace plan is finally signed, it seems like Judea and Samaria (the so called “west bank”) will have Jewish families living inside of “Palestinian territories”. One can imagine Jews fleeing from those areas in a hurry without looking back. The Bible describes there will be a great slaughter of the Jews and they will flee to Petra.

The Lord will assist the Jewish people with their escape to the mountains (Revelation 12:6, 13, 14); and when the man of sin sets out to destroy them, a great earthquake will wipe out that portion of his forces (v. 16). This is another example of G-d protecting His chosen people.

Thus we may have two political developments that appears to go into the direction of what Revelation is describing. First, a clear path for the Jewish people to flee to Jordan and second the Jewish families in Judea and Samaria (the so called “settlements”) will be in big trouble during the tribulation.

Netanyahu was endorsed last week as prime minister by 72 Knesset members, completing a remarkable turnaround that will see him retain the premiership for at least the next 18 months and paving the way for him to finalize a coalition agreement with Blue and White party leader Gantz and swear-in his new government next week. Then he will likely fulfill his promise of annexing the Jordan Valley and other parts of the eastern border by July 1st, 2020.

Something biblical is going on….
