What is “Veahavta”?

Posted by

Veahavta is the pronunciation of the word in Hebrew וְאָהַבְתָּ. “And you shall love”. It is the  the continuation of the Shema – “Hear, O Israel, the LORD is our God; the LORD is one“.

Sometimes we think of Shema solely the prayer’s opening line: “Hear O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One.

But the Shema continues with a series of verses taken from the book of Deuteronomy. The opening word of that section is Veahavta, “You shall love.” The verse continues: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”

Take a moment and think about that. Love the Lord with all your heart, soul and might .

Heart, soul and might…..

Thank you Abba (Father)

וְאָהַבְתָּ אֵת ה’ אֱלֹהֶיךָ

And you shall love the Eternal One your God

With your whole heart, with every breath, with all that you have
